Holy Spirit Parish, Gungahlin@SpiritLive(TM)

General Information

Baptisms are generally celebrated on the first three Sundays of the month at 11:00am and 11:45am in Holy Spirit Parish Church, Burdekin Ave, Amaroo. When necessary, three baptisms will be celebrated at the same time. Please phone the parish office on 6242 9622 to book your child's baptism.

 Preparation for Baptism

· Instruction Session:  Parents presenting their child for Baptism are required to attend an Instruction Session held monthly in the small room in the Church after the 9:30am Mass.  These sessions are generally held on the last Sunday of the month however it is necesary to refer to the Bulletin to confirm session dates. (Next session dates for 2010 are: 28 March, 2 May, 30 May)

· Fr Mark or Fiona will visit the family in the week preceding the Baptism on request.

· Any changes to the Baptismal Information provided (eg. God Parents) should be notified to the Parish Office in the week prior to the ceremony so that the Baptismal Certificate will be correct.

About the Ceremony

· Photos and videos may be taken during the ceremony.

· Baptismal candle: One will be supplied, however, parents may provide their own if they wish.

· Baptismal Robe: One will be supplied and must be returned after the ceremony.  If parents wish they may provide their own white robe which can be kept in the family.

Please note it is customary to provide a donation to cover church costs for the ceremony.  About $50 is normal, however where the parents are contributing to the planned giving programme or wherever there is financial hardship this may be waivered.

Presentation of Your Child to the Community

As baptism is the first step on your child's faith journey and initiation into the Christian Community, it is important that it is celebrated within the community.

To enable you, as the child's parents, to experience the support of the community and for the community to meet their new member, we ask that parents bring their child to one of the Parish Masses on a weekend leading up to the Baptism. During this Mass, your child will be presented to the community in a simple ceremony.
